Red Bend Software reaches 80M consumers

Red Bend Software, a Framingham firm specializing in mobile phone software, announced that its Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) solution is now embedded in 58 handset models used by 80 million consumers worldwide.

FOTA updating solutions allow for mobile phone updates to be delivered directly to cell phones.  Red Bend forecasts that at its current growth rate, its vCurrent Mobile software will be in use in 100 million mobile phones by the end of Q1 2007.

Red Bend also noted that at the close of 2006, its vCurrent Mobile software was embedded in 58 handset models, compared to 6 at the end of '05.  Several global manufacturers began to use Red Bend's mobile updating software in the release of 17 new phones, including Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, Sharp, and NEC.

Six manufacturers total shipped phones with vCurrent Mobile, and three more manufacturers signed license agreements to bring Red Bend FOTA-enabled devices to market in 2007.

"The wireless industry will remember 2006 as the year that the FOTA market took off, and the year that Red Bend emerged as the market leader," said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Red Bend Software.
