Presidential election remains too close to call

DREAMSTIME.COM

The election for U.S. president remained too close to call as of late Wednesday morning, according to polling data from The New York Times, which showed former Vice President Joe Biden holding a slight lead over incumbent President Donald Trump.

Key states holding up the final tally included Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.

Both the Trump and Biden campaigns continued to send out positive messages predicting their respective wins.

As of shortly after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Biden had won 227 electoral votes, with Trump holding on to 213, according to the Times, leaving 98 up for grabs. Candidates need to obtain at least 270 electoral votes in order to win the election.

Biden easily won Massachusetts with 66.8% of the vote in his favor, according to Times data, although ballots in the state would be accepted through Nov. 6, so not every vote has been counted yet.

Biden’s numbers in Worcester County generally tracked with those figures, with some 59% voting for the former vice president, per Times data. Middlesex County turned out even more enthusiastically for the Democratic candidate, with 72.8% casting votes in his favor so far.

Votes from the remaining states are expected to trickle in through Wednesday and the rest of the week.
