Opticonx Inc., a manufacturer of fiber optic connectivity components, is leaving Oxford and heading down Interstate 395 to Putnam, Conn.
Opticonx was located in the Oxford Industrial Park at 36 Town Forest Rd., where it leased two buildings, but co-owner Paul Doherty said that the company needed room to expand.
Originally from Worcester, he and his wife Patricia, who is the company president, searched for space in Massachusetts along the 395 corridor.
“We just couldn’t find anything that was along the corridor that would meet our needs that we could purchase,” Doherty said.
Doherty purchased a building 45 Danco Dr. in Putnam in February for just over $1 million under the name Danco Properties LLC, according to the town’s online land records database.
At approximately 28,000 square feet, the Putnam building is 10,000 square feet bigger than the buildings Opticonx inhabited in Oxford. Those buildings are now listed for rent, Doherty said.
Doherty said that he thinks the company is making the move at the right time and is hopeful about the economy’s continued recovery.
