Northeast Has Lowest Regional Jobless Rate

The northeastern United States continues to be the most insulated region from high unemployment rates, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Northeast had the lowest regional unemployment rate of nine areas of the country, at 8.2 percent. The West had the highest, at 10.5 percent.

On the individual state level, New York and Texas each added the most jobs in July, compared to June, each state adding more than 29,000 jobs.

Illinois and Florida saw the largest drop in employment, with each losing more than 22,000 jobs.

Nationwide, 28 states experienced unemployment rate increases in July, while another nine states saw drops. Another 13 states had no change.

Massachusetts gained 12,700 jobs month over month, and is up 56,800 jobs since July 2010. The state's unemployment rate is 7.6 percent, compared with a national average of 9.1 percent.
