Gov. Deval Patrick has joined with New England’s other governors in asking ISO-New England to support expanded infrastructure for clean-energy electricity and natural gas.
According to the Patrick administration, the New England States Committee on Electricity asked ISO-New ENgland, which operates the region’s electric grid, to assist the states as they request proposals for infrastructure to deliver at least 1,200 megawatts (MW) and as much as 3,600 MW of electricity from clean energy sources into the grid, and to develop a way to fund support for natural gas pipelines.
“Our regional energy infrastructure partnership is a big step forward in our effort to provide residents with more affordable, reliable and cleaner power,” Patrick said. “Diversifying our energy mix will help ensure adequate supplies and end our reliance on fossil fuels that come with volatile prices.”
The letter comes from a December agreement among the governors to work together on a regional approach to expanding energy infrastructure in New England. The Patrick administration said the infrastructure investments are important to ensure that the region gets enough natural gas and clean energy from a variety of sources.
