Mass. realtor confidence falls again

The state’s Realtors group said year-over-year confidence among its members in market activity fell for the second straight month, though confidence in home prices continues to rise.

The Massachusetts Association of Realtors (MAR) said market confidence dropped from 57.47 on a 100-point scale in December 2012 to 52.63 in December of last year. That’s also down from a 56.8 reading in November 2013.

But the group’s price confidence index rose year over year from 72.71 to 75.39, marking the 23rd consecutive month of advances. That reading was up from the November figure of 70.6.

“The lack of homes for sale and concerns about interest rates going up caused Realtor confidence to decline in the last two months,” Peter Ruffini, president of the Massachusetts Association of Realtors, said in a statement. “However, price increases have helped put equity back into homes, leaving more homeowners in a position to sell.”
