ELIZABETH SMALL is now general counsel at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. She most recently served as general counsel at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater for two years, and before that was associate general counsel at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. for eight years. She has led higher education institutions through policy development, grant and contract review, Title IV and Title IX compliance, student and employee matters and many more. A graduate of Georgetown University and Boston University School of Law, Small is a Dartmouth native and resides in Barrington, R.I., with her husband and two children.

ELIZABETH CANNING was hired as director of Title IX Initiatives/Clery Act Compliance and Title IX coordinator at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. Canning has experience working on nondiscrimination, equity and compliance issues, and will be charged with fostering a culture of respect on campus in her new role. Most recently, she worked as director of equity and compliance services and nondiscrimination coordinator and Title IX coordinator at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I., following six years in the public defender's office in Providence. She is a graduate of Harvard University and Boston College Law School and lives in Providence with her husband and daughter.

KAREN WILLIAMS was appointed to the Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc.'s board of directors. Williams is the senior director of UMass Medical School's Disability and Community Services, and since joining UMass has developed solutions to operational and policy challenges for public clients. She has a bachelor's degree from California State University and a master's in social work from Boston University. Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc. is a nonprofit offering services to the elderly and the disabled in Worcester and 14 area communities.

SAMANTHA P. MCDONALD was promoted to officer at Fletcher Tilton PC in Worcester. She joined the firm in 2009 and focuses her practice in real property law, including landlord-tenant, land use and development and surrounding property issues. A graduate of Clark University and Suffolk University Law School, McDonald serves on the board of directors at Y.O.U. Inc. and ARTSWorcester and on the steering committee for the Women's Initiative of the United Way of Central Massachusetts. She lives in Holden and is also a member of two environmental groups -- Wachusett Greenways and White Oak Land Trust.

PATRICK C. TINSLEY is now an officer at Fletcher Tilton PC in Worcester. Since joining the firm in 2012, his practice has focused on fiduciary litigation, business torts, contract disputes and employment law with a focus on public and private sector whistleblower claims. Tinsley received his bachelor's degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, and an M.A. from the University of Memphis after studying philosophy at Eberhard-Karls Universität in Tübingen, Germany. He is also a graduate of Suffolk University Law School, where he received multiple academic scholarships and American Jurisprudence Awards for corporate, criminal and property law. He lives in Natick.

STEPHEN HILBORN joined the general surgery department at Harrington Physician Services in Charlton earlier this year. A member of the American College of Surgeons, Hilborn most recently worked at the Center for Wound Care Healing in Brattleboro, Vt. He is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.

THOMAS CANTO now works at the Wound Care Center at Harrington in Charlton, part of Harrington HealthCare System. He joins Harrington from Baystate Wing Hospital and brings 28 years of experience in general surgery to the practice. Canto, who specializes in varicose vein treatment, is a graduate of the Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. He has worked in several hospitals in Virginia and the Carolinas.

AIVI NGUYEN is now a partner at Worcester law firm Bowditch & Dewey, making her the youngest attorney elected to partnership in the firm's history. She is a trial attorney with a concentration in business and employment litigation. A native of the Worcester community, Nguyen serves as chair of the firm's Diversity Committee, as a trustee of Quinsigamond Community College and on the city's new Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Boston College Law School.

THOMAS JOHNSON has joined the Wound Care Center at Harrington in Charlton, part of Harrington HealthCare System. He has more than 20 years of experience, most recently at Baystate Wing Hospital. Johnson is a graduate of the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and has worked at Beverly Surgical Associates, Albany Medical Center and at Boston University Medical Center, where he completed his residency.

DANIEL HICKEY joined the team at Forward Financial Services in Worcester. He has more than 20 years of financial planning experience and will focus on retirement, estate and family business planning. Hickey is a Charlton resident and married father of three.
