Mexico’s Telcel Picks Marlborough’s Netezza

Telcel, the largest mobile phone carrier in Mexico, has chosen a server product produced by Marlborough-based Netezza Corp.

Telcel chose the Netezza Performance Server to replace an existing system that analyzes vast amounts of data after considering options from computer giant HP and other vendors, Netezza said.

Telcel has more than 56 million clients and 90 percent of the Mexican wireless market. It is owned by Carlos Slim Helu, who recently loaned the New York Times Co. $250 million.

For the first quarter, Netezza reported a $237,000 loss, a steep drop from the $2.1 million profit the company reported for the same period in 2008.
