The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester has landed a $900,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to fund a program that prepares undergrad students to teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in “high-need school districts.”
The money will fund the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program through 2015. The program will provide $19,000 annual scholarships for up to two years to STEM students that participate in Holy Cross’ Teacher Education Program and then teach in under-resourced school districts for four years after graduation.
Twenty scholarships will be given over a five-year period starting with the 2010-2011 school year.
The grant will also fund tutoring and mentoring within STEM classes at Worcester middle and high schools.
