The Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MassMEP) has partnered with Quinsigamond Community College (QCC) to create a new associate degree program in manufacturing, the two announced.
The program allows those interested in pursuing an associate's degree in manufacturing technology, with an applied manufacturing option to receive QCC credit for MassMEP courses and on-the-job training. Upon completion, they can apply to the degree program at QCC.
Jack Healy, director of operations at MassMEP, said the organization's goal is to increase the talent pool for advanced manufacturing and that key components of that are a pathway to certification, standard instruction and an evaluation process that gives workers employable skills.
"We work hand-in-hand with employers and the community to provide a defined skill set that reduces the cost to hire and train," Healy said. "The QCC (associate's) degree in manufacturing technology, applied manufacturing option is the culmination of this pathway. It gives workers new opportunities for advancement and provides employers with workers skilled in advanced manufacturing technologies and processes."
Those interested in starting in the new program must attend recruitment information sessions that are conducted throughout the year. Dates and locations are at www.STEMPower.org and the One Stop Career Centers across central Massachusetts.
