Massachusetts is the 7th most moved-out-of state
The annual National Movers Study from national moving company United Van Lines reveals Massachusetts is among the worst states in the nation for people leaving, rather than moving in.
Massachusetts ranked No. 7 on the company’s list of most moved from states last year. More than half -- 56 percent -- of Massachusetts moves were outbound, the report said. The Bay State did improve from 2017, though, when it ranked No. 6 among the most departed states.
The Northeast region as a whole continued that trend, as 57 percent of all Northeast moves were outbound. An exception, however, was Vermont, which was actually 2018’s top moving destination, United Van Lines said.
The report shows the continuing trend of a migration to states with a cheaper cost of living and better weather, as states in the South and Southwest were the most popular destinations.
