A multistate operator of cannabis dispensaries has received approval from Worcester’s Planning Board to add a retail cultivation component to an existing facility on Southwest Cutoff.
Temescal Wellness, which operates in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maryland, seeks to grow and manufacture marijuana products at the facility. Those products will then be transported to and sold at dispensaries in Pittsfield, Hudson and Framingham.
The board on Wednesday unanimously approved the special permit for adult-use marijuana cultivation, which is a necessary step in the state’s licensing process.
The 18,000-square-foot Worcester facility has been up and running for several months, servicing those three medical dispensaries.
Last month, the Cannabis Control Commission awarded the company provisional recreational marijuana licenses for every location except for its Framingham dispensary.
CEO Ted Rebholz in an interview with WBJ last month said the company will double its Massachusetts headcount to around 150.
There are about two dozen full-time employees at the Worcester facility. With two stores champing at the bit to tap into a lucrative adult-use market, the company has begun ramping up hiring to accommodate the impending demand.
