Mass Personal Income Second In Nation

Personal income for Bay State residents rose by 3.1 percent last year to $51,552, the second-highest per-capita income in the nation, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Massachusetts trails only Connecticut in per-capita income and is well above the national average of $40,584.

Nationwide, personal income grew by 3 percent, after falling by 1.7 percent in 2009.

The professional services sector was the only industry the BEA tracked that had wages higher than their pre-recession levels.

Another 14 industries grew in wages last year, but remain below their pre-recession levels.

Construction and real-estate earnings continued to decline and remain below their 2008 levels.
