Data storage company Sepaton of Marlborough has been acquired by Hitachi Data Systems of California, according to announcements on both companies’ websites.
The deal was announced last week in a blog post by a Hitachi executive, as well as an industry website, StorageReview.com. Terms were not disclosed.
A brief announcement on Hitachi’s website called the deal a “win” for customers. Hitachi, based in Santa Clara in the Silicon Valley, said the acquisition will augment its line of data protection products for business customers.
A Hitachi vice president, Sean Moser, said on his blog that Sepaton will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi. He added that the companies have worked together “for many years, and have a number of mutual customers who have experienced the power of our combined solutions.”
Sepaton, founded in 2003, is privately held, and has international offices in London and Beijing. Within the last year, the company was awarded two patents, one for a method that allows its enterprise backup and recovery software to sort through data more quickly and find data matches more efficiently. The other patent was awarded for a process that improves data de-duplication ratios and speed.
As of last February, the company held 17 patents covering different aspects of enterprise data protection.
Sepaton’s customer base spans several industries.
