BIO, the Biotechnology Industry Organization, has named Gov. Deval Patrick its Governor of the Year.
The title is in recognition of Patrick’s support of the biotechnology industry, specifically his $1 billion life sciences initiative he signed into law this morning. The initiative provides financial incentives to life sciences companies that bring jobs to the state and will fund company growth such as equipment purchases, research or employee relocation to Massachusetts.
Patrick will receive the award Tuesday at the annual BIO conference in San Diego. The award will be presented by Joshua Borger, chairman of BIO’s board of directors and president and CEO of Cambridge-based Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc.
