Labor talks resume between Pratt & Whitney and union
Pratt & Whitney is resuming labor talks with its main union after a special round of early talks in August failed.
The jet engine manufacturer's contract with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers expires Dec. 2nd.
The offer to the union in August included 3.5 percent annual wage increases, a $3,000 signing bonus and higher pension benefits. The Machinists rejected it by a nearly two-to-one vote, saying it did not make the job security promises they sought.
The contract covers about 4,100 members at Pratt's plants in East Hartford, Middletown and Cheshire.
The Machinists have already authorized a strike vote if they reject the company's contract offer.
