A computer executive has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for making a payoff to former state Sen. Ernest Newton.
In April, a federal jury in Bridgeport found Jeanette Foxworth of New Orleans guilty of nine counts in an indictment arising from a public corruption investigation into Newton. She was charged with wire fraud and making false statements to FBI agents.
Newton is serving a five-year prison sentence for corruption.
Foxworth is president and chief executive officer of Applicable Computer Engineering Technology.
Prosecutors say she corruptly paid Newton $3,000 to assist her in securing contracts for her and her business.
The 53-year-old Foxworth must also pay a $5,000 fine.
