Kronos Inc. of Chelmsford reports that its Retail Labor Index hit a three-year high in November.
The index compares U.S. hires to applicants. It hit a level of 4.2 in November, meaning that 4.2 people were hired for every 100 applications received in the retail sector. This was the highest reading since October 2008.
The retailers sampled by Kronos made 7.1 percent more hires in November than in October, while applications declined 10.8 percent. The monthly level of applications for November was the lowest in more than four years. Applications hit a peak in the middle of 2009.
