IT jobs in Conn. drop by 7 percent

The number of open IT jobs in Connecticut dropped by 6.8 percent from December to January, worrying analysts because the beginning of the year usually results in a job opening spike.

In January, there were 1,380 open IT jobs in Connecticut, down from 1,480 in December and 1,550 in January 2007. The survey, conducted by SkillPROOF and the Connecticut Technology Council, revealed that the pressure on financial services and insurance employers has trickled down to IT employees.

Historically, employers in Connecticut have posted a growing number in jobs in January but the year-over-year number for the month has been falling since 2006. The positive news, however, is that employers have posted more open positions than they have closed.
