Biostage, Inc., a biotech company in Holliston working to bring throat implants to the market, hired its founder and former CEO David Green back to lead the company after roughly six years of absence, according to a Tuesday press release.
Green is the founder and former CEO of both Biostage and Zero Carbon LLC, an energy efficiency business. He left Biostage in 2015 after a major road accident, per the release.
Along with taking a position as CEO, Green was also appointed to chairman of the Biostage board of directors, and has invested $250,000 in Biostage. His compensation will be entirely stock options, with the exception of the Massachusetts minimum wage.
"I am excited to be back running Biostage. The clinical results of the first-in-human use of our Biostage Esophageal Implant, conducted at Mayo Clinic in 2017, were very positive. We believe that this is the first time that the esophagus has been regenerated inside the human body," Green said in the press release.
Biostage has seven issued patents in the U.S., and is focused on its esophageal implant product, which is used to treat esophageal cancer. Throughout its clinical research, the company has received significant funding from Chinese investors, as the rate of throat cancer is high in China.
