Harrington HealthCare System in Southbridge has been awarded a $491,600 grant from the commonwealth to bolster its behavioral health services and help connect providers to the state’s electronic health information exchange.
The money will be used to develop a plan to better integrate Harrington’s behavioral health and primary care offices, reconstruct the electronic medical records system in the behavioral health department and help providers interested in connecting to the exchange.
“The grant will allow more effective, timely and accurate communication of medical records and other vital information among healthcare providers in the state, which in turn will result in improved patient outcomes and increased patient safety,” Edward Moore, Harrington’s president and CEO, said in a statement.
Harrington is also in the middle of an $8.8-million campaign to build a new emergency department at its Webster facility. More than $6 million has been raised since the campaign started in 2012.
