Cornerstone Bank opens new Worcester branch

A new brick-and-mortar bank has come to Worcester’s Tatnuck Square as Cornerstone Bank has opened a branch at 1125 Pleasant St.

“This is one of Worcester’s most vibrant neighborhoods with a bustling shopping district near Worcester State University and the Worcester Airport,” Todd Tallman, CEO of Cornerstone, said in a Tuesday press release from the bank. “We’re so excited to join and serve this community.”

The Worcester-based bank’s 12th location includes a new full-service site offering lending and investment consultations with specialists, available by appointment only, and two drive-up lanes with ATM capabilities with live video tellers during banking hours.

Outside, the bank will feature a sculpture made from locally recycled metals and wood created by José Criollo, an Ecuador-born sculptor and painter, according to his Instagram page

Cornerstone originally announced plans in January to open the branch after purchasing the property of a former Santander Bank location in August 2023 for $2.1 million.

The bank began construction on the site in 2024, and though it was a bank-to-bank conversion, that didn’t make the process any easier. The branch needed significant updates to adjust to the banking needs of the modern customer, which meant fewer teller stations, less space for long lines, and more private consulting rooms, said Altaf Ahmed, executive vice president of retail banking at Cornerstone.

The new branch will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and will be closed on Sundays.

Cornerstone will host a public ribbon-cutting and grand opening celebration at 125 Pleasant St. on May 10.
