Great Resumes, Bad Interviews

Job seekers may want to spend a little extra time honing their interview skills, according to the results of a survey by Robert Half International.

More than 70 percent of the senior executives who responded to the survey said it is common for job candidates with impressive resumes to not live up to expectations during interviews.

Robert Half is a staffing firm that specializes in the accounting and finance industry.

Of the 72 percent of executives that said it was common for the writers of stellar resumes to fall flat in person, 11 percent said it was a very common occurrence while 61 percent it was somewhat common.

Hiring managers can protect against such disappointment by posting job ads in targeted places like trade journals and association web sites, getting recommendations from colleagues, staying involved in the hiring process and conducting brief phone interviews.
