Gardner receives $200K grant for expansion project

Gardner received a $200,000 MassWorks grant Monday that will assist a $1.5 million expansion of New England Peptide (NEP) in the city’s Summit Industrial Park.

The grant was announced Monday at the groundbreaking of a $1.5 million expansion from NEP, according to a release from the state. The company creates proteins used in research and medical applications in a 10,000 square foot facility.

The work will take place in two 12,000-square-foot expansions. The first phase will include additional parking. Work on the second phase will begin in three to five years, the state said, and increase capacity while adding up to 25 new jobs. The grant will be used to move a sewer line that runs through the area of the expansion.

“The grant being awarded from the MassWorks Infrastructure Program to New England Peptide means New England Peptide is staying, expanding, and allowing jobs to remain in Gardner,” said Sen. Jennifer Flanagan, D-Leominster. “New England Peptide will be able to continue delivering a full range of services for biotech and pharmaceutical operations.”

The MassWorks Infrastructure Program is administered by the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.
