While the use of Twitter has shot up in recent months, more than half of the estimated 32.1 million users have never issued a single tweet.
That’s according to a report from Cambridge-based HubSpot called the “State of the Twittersphere.” Specifically, HubSpot’s analysis of data from more than 4.5 million Twitter accounts over a nine-month period found that 55.5 percent of users are not following anyone, 54.9 percent have never tweeted and 52.7 percent have no followers.
Twitter is a “micro-blog” that allows users to issue 140-character status updates. Every user of Twitter is encouraged to follow other users.
