Hopkinton data storage giant EMC Corp. has formed a new company, Decho Corp.
Decho combines two businesses that EMC acquired recently, Mozy Inc. and Pi Corp. The new company will offer Mozy brand online backup service and new cloud computing services for individuals and businesses.
EMC said Decho aims to help people control their "digital echo," the personal information like financial records, family photos and professional portfolios that are now scattered over different computers and web sites.
The new company will be headquartered in Seattle and have operations in Bangalore, Montreal and Utah.
Decho's initial offering, the Mozy online backup service, already has more than 900,000 users, including more than 25,000 business customers, EMC said.
EMC acquired Mozy in October 2007 and Pi Corp. in February 2008
