Q. How are you settling in at your new office?
Very well. My office is across from the CEO and this allows us to interact and work closely throughout the course of the day. The senior management team has all been very supportive.

Q. What challenges do you see in your new position?
As the chief medical officer, I see my role as helping to align the medical staff with the governing body in an effort to improve the quality of care that is provided at our hospital. This comes at a particularly challenging time, when all hospitals are faced with limited financial resources and the physicians are also facing cuts in reimbursements.

Q. How close is this to what you imagined in high school you'd end up doing?
I decided I was going to be a doctor when I was in the seventh grade and after having practiced medicine for the last 17 years, taking on this position is going to give me the opportunity to prove my leadership skills.

Q. How far is your commute to the office?
I am very fortunate to have only a three-minute commute. This allows me to actually put in longer hours at work which is a requirement in my position.

Q. Where's the best place to get lunch near your new location?
Marlborough Hospital completely renovated the cafeteria recently with a wonderful new menu. I look forward to getting lunch there especially as the staff there is very friendly.

Q. Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
Living on the Fort Meadow Reservoir, I enjoy all water activities during the summer months, especially kayaking and swimming. On weekends I enjoy cooking with my son.

Q. What's on your to-do list for the next couple of days?
I am just getting back from an international health care conference which has been a particularly inspirational experience. I am looking forward to sharing the newly learned strategies and ideas with my colleagues and the trustees in an effort to make Marlborough Hospital a leader in health care delivery.
