Lightower Fiber Networks of Boxborough is acquiring New York-based communications company Open Access Inc.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The company said the acquisition will expand its fiber-optic network and customer base in Long Island and the New York City area. Open Access’s network covers 230 commercial buildings and data centers in that area.
Lightower’s current network already includes parts of Metro New York and Long Island, as well as Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Jersey. It also offers “long haul” services to major cities nationwide.
Lightower is backed by M/C Venture Partners, Pamlico Capital, and Ridgemont Equity Partners. Open Access Inc. is privately held.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2011.
