The Massachusetts Port Authority, or MassPort, which owns and operates Worcester Regional Airport, has signed a contract with a Bedford firm that will provide services to private and general aviation planes that fly into the airport.
As part of the contract, Rectrix Aviation FBO will invest $5 million in the next two years to construct a new hangar at the Worcester Airport.
MassPort awarded the contract to Rectrix after a competitive bidding process. The firm will also provide the Fixed Base Operator services at L.G. Hanscom Field in Bedford, which is also owned by MassPort. Rectrix said it could add 100 jobs in the coming years as part of the contract.
FBOs provide services including flight crews, mechanics, aircraft parking and fueling and maintenance to general aviation planes and private jets.
Rectrix has agreed to construct a 27,000-square foot hangar that will be Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design certified in Worcester. It’s investing about $15 million to construct a new 96,000-square-foot hangar at Hanscom field.
