Stryker Pays $15M In Bone Growth Case

Stryker Biotech, the Hopkinton-based division of Michigan’s Stryker Corp., says it has reached a $15 million settlement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.

The company has been accused of marketing an unapproved product for strengthening bone growth, leading to adverse side effects in some patients.

With the settlement, Stryker said it agreed to plead to one misdemeanor charge and pay the $15 million fine. In exchange, it said, the Department of Justice agreed to dismiss 13 felony charges against the company that stemmed from a 2009 federal grand jury indictment.
