IT consulting company Virtusa, of Westborough, was awarded Stevie American Business Awards for the "Human Resources Department of the Year - Computer Software and Services" category. The awards recognize outstanding performance in the workplace. Virtusa was recognized for its HR technology and engagement Initiatives for millennial-generation employees. The company also received a Partner Excellence Award from Pegasystems, a software manufacturer, for implementing the company's case management system for a leading British law firm.
The George F. & Sybil H. Fuller Foundation won the first-ever I. Robert Freelander Award for philanthropy from The Worcester State Foundation. The newly created award honors the late Freelander, a small business owner and philanthropist who served as a charter member of the foundation board until 2005.
Leona Joseph, Diane DeCiccio, Erika Hall, Edward LaPointe and Wendy Burdett all took honors at the Worcester Regional Association of Realtors Annual Awards Ceremony at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts. Joseph, of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, Worcester, won the Realtor of the Year Award; DeCiccio, of Open Door Real Estate, Sterling, won the Distinguished Service Award; Hall, of Keller Williams Realty, Worcester, won the Realtors Choice Award; LaPointe, of Salisbury Management Inc., won the Rookie of the Year Award; and Burdett, of Prospect Mortgage in Worcester, won for Affiliate of the Year.
Katherine Abbott, executive director at Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, has been selected by the American Society of Landscape Architects to receive the LaGasse Medal "for contributions to the management and conservation of natural resources and public landscapes."
