$450K In Grants For School Districts To Go Regional

Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray was in Worcester this morning to announce $450,000 in grants for school districts exploring regionalization.
In Central Massachusetts, Ayer and Shirley, which formed a regional partnership last year, will get $300,000 for "transition costs."
The towns of Mendon, Upton and Hopedale along with eight other towns will get $10,000 to study school district regionalization.
The Patrick-Murray administration has encouraged school regionalization as a way to help districts become more efficient through shared budgeting, purchasing and teaching.
The grants are funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the state Fiscal Stabilization Fund.
Murray announced the grant this morning at The College of the Holy Cross.
