BJ’s, TJX Show Continued Strength In August

MetroWest retail giants TJX Cos. Inc. and BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. posted strong August sales results on increasing customer traffic.

Framingham-based TJX said August sales were $1.7 billion, up 6 percent over last year. Year-to-date, the discount retailer said sales are up 10 percent.

TJX operates T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and other retail outlets.

Natick-based BJ’s said August sales increased 4.9 percent to $795 million.

Customer traffic at BJ’s increased 3 percent while the average transaction amount decreased 1 percent. Food sales increased 4 percent.

BJ’s operates 189 stores in 15 states.
