Senior Regional Communications Director, American Heart Association
Company location: Framingham
Residence: Marlborough
Age: 33
Career highlights: My career is like a choose-your-own-ending storybook, filled with people, purpose, and passion. I don’t think there is just one path. From international diplomacy to development to public service and nonprofit work, everything I’ve done has kept me focused on making positive changes — in the world, in the lives of kids, in my community. While focused on serving the public, I earned my master’s in public affairs and started my own jewelry business. I continue to judge my “success” in life by my happiness in what I do… So far, so good!
Community involvement: After resigning from the Marlborough City Council, I remained active in the community by joining the board of directors for the Marlborough Community Development Corp. I also serve on the historical commission, and will always be a Rotarian at heart! Now that our first daughter will be in kindergarten, I feel a role in the PTO might be around the corner.
Biggest success: I think my biggest successes have been from working hard to accomplish something that was seemingly impossible at the start. Like running for office (and winning) against an incumbent… Or bringing people together to ensure affordable assisted housing is built on rejuvenated brownfields…
Biggest challenge: I’m slowly learning that utilizing the strengths of those on our team isn’t simply delegating, it’s fostering and supporting talented players as they learn, grow, develop skills and succeed. Someday, I’ll also learn to say no.
Hidden talent: I sing. I’ve opened for Judy Collins, sang for Bill Cosby at the Kennedy Center Honors and performed at former Vice President Al Gore’s Christmas parties. Now, I sing mostly in the shower, in the car, and at bedtime, but I can always be convinced to do Karaoke.
