Rodney B. Capron Jr.

Age: 37

Title: President & CEO

Company: PongoResume and Synthenet Corp.

Company location: Northborough

Residence: Boylston

Career highlights:

These days I run two companies: Synthenet, a web development firm, and PongoResume, an online resume builder and career management site. I provide the strategic vision − who we are, where we're going. And I make sure we have the right team and the right infrastructure to get there.

In my early 20s, I bounced around through a series of jobs. But it seemed like I always managed to find a boss who saw my unique strengths and encouraged me to develop them. Their support gave me the confidence and the entrepreneurial mindset that brought me here.

Community involvement:

Honestly, I rarely have the time to physically volunteer. So it’s extremely important to me that we build community support into our business practices. My wife Lynn (who is also my business partner) and I financially support several cancer-related charities and fundraisers. Cancer has directly affected our own families and friends, and it hits home for so many people. We also support the Worcester County Food Bank, Abby’s House shelter for battered women, and The Gabriel Foundation, a bird rescue facility. In addition, we like to support the causes and fundraisers our staff members participate in.

Biggest professional success:

What I’m doing now is probably my biggest success. My driving force, the hidden mission statement for my companies, is to have a positive impact on people’s lives. I get tremendous satisfaction when a business improves its profitability or customer service because of Synthenet’s technological help, and when individuals get jobs using tools and information from PongoResume.

Dream job:

I’d like to be a professional MotoGP (motorcycle) racer. I currently channel that urge into sponsoring the Pongo/Ducati Racing team.

Businessperson you admire most:

I’ve always held Steve Jobs on a pedestal as a passionate strategic leader. He immerses himself in the design and technical aspects of Apple products. When he was gone, Apple lost its polish. When he returned, his vision and understanding of what attracts people allowed Apple to achieve incredible things.

Favorite movie:

“Better Off Dead.”
