Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley's office has reached a $1 million agreement with Genesis HealthCare, a Pennsylvania-based company that operates senior care facilities, over unpaid wages.
Genesis and its affiliate agreed to pay $826,072 in vacation wages to employees who quit or were fired, plus $100,000 in penalties and $100,000 to create a fund for education and enforcement on wage and hour laws.
The complaints concerned the company's alleged failure to pay 1,646 outgoing employees for vacation time they had accrued. The workers left the company between October 2008 and November 2011.
The AG's office said Genesis cooperated fully with its investigation and audit of the company's pay records.
Genesis offers services at more than 200 centers across 13 states in the eastern U.S. Its locations include Wachusett Manor in Gardner, Keystone Center in Leominster, Apple Valley Center in Ayer, Westford House in Westford and Palm Center in Chelmsford.
