WPI Life Sciences Center Gets Director

David Easson, founder of two Worcester startups and a biotechnology veteran, has been named the director of Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center.

Easson most recently served as director of the BioProcess Division of Impact Technology Development, a contract development organization in Lincoln and Devens. He founded Cadrus Therapeutics of Worcester, which focused on developing a new drug delivery technology, in 2009. Carus has sinced closed.

Before that, he spent eight years as vice president for manufacturing and process development at Epic Therapeutics Inc. of Norwood, which was acquired by Baxter Healthcare Corp.

Easson also co-founded Alpha-Beta Technology Inc. in Worcester, which developed yeast-derived biopharmaceuticals and had 180 employees at one point but shut down its operations in 1999.

WPI's bioengineering center houses research and development programs in various biotechnology fields, contract research space and a "bioprocess center" where companies can develop manufacturing processes.
