Eight percent of Worcester-area workers were employed in health care as practitioners or technical employees, compared with 5.8 percent of the U.S. workforce. Community and social services was also a more popular field in the area, accounting for 2.8 percent of the workforce, compared with 1.5 percent nationwide.

Only 2.9 percent of the area's workers were employed in construction and extraction, compared with 4 percent across the U.S.

The most common fields of employment overall were sales and related work, with 10 percent in Worcester and 10.6 percent nationwide, and office and administrative support, with 16.7 percent locally and 16.9 percent in the U.S.
