Worcester’s rents have increased by 0.8% year-over-year in a figure seeing the city lagging behind Massachusetts and the nation in rental price growth.

Worcester rents have increased 0.4% over the past month, and have increased marginally by 0.8% in comparison to the same time last year, according to a report released by the online data firm Apartment List. This lags behind the year-to-date growth of 2.3% for the state’s rent and 1.4% for the nation.

According to Apartment List, median rents in Worcester are $986 for a one-bedroom apartment and $1,256 for a two-bedroom. Cambridge is the most expensive of all Massachusetts' major cities, according to the report, with a median two-bedroom rent of $2,307.  Brockton, where a two-bedroom goes for $1,565, is the only major city to see rents fall year-over-year, by 1%.

Apartment List uses private apartment listing data, and U.S. Census Bureau data to compile its reports.

Rents are too pricey and you are writing an article stating that Worcester lags in rent price increases? People can't afford to live and eat and raise a family- Prices out in Boston are ridiculous! The rent prices need to come down, so people have AFFORDABLE housing. All the new apartment rents in Worcester are ridiculous- the only thing keeping the average price down is older places. The new ones charge too much for too little.
