The MassHire employment office in Worcester has been chosen as one of six such sites nationwide for a pilot program meant to help people find work during the coronavirus pandemic.
MassHire’s Central Region Workforce Board is sharing in a $6-million initiative called the Future of Work Grand Challenge funded by the international financial services company JPMorgan Chase and led by a series of social groups, including one that MassHire will work with: JFF, or Jobs for the Future, which has a local office in Boston.
Worcester and the other sites, which were announced Thursday, were chosen by JPMorgan Chase because of their records of innovation and effectiveness, the company said. Each will receive support and funding for pilot innovations to help connect job seekers to employment, including through the use of new technology to better fit services with workforce needs.
Others chosen for the program were in Hartford, the Hampton Roads region in Virginia, San Diego, Dallas and the Grand Rapids area in Michigan. The program is expected to expand to other MassHire board across Massachusetts in the coming year and a half, according to JPMorgan Chase.
