Worcester-based Spectrum Health Systems has landed a $44-million contract with the state to provide medication-assisted drug addiction treatment throughout the Massachusetts prison system.
Spectrum has already worked with the state correctional system since 1993, providing substance abuse disorder and recidivism reduction programming in a four-year contract with the Massachusetts Department of Correction. Jennifer Gaffney, the state’s deputy commissioner of reentry and clinical services, said in a statement Spectrum’s extensive knowledge of providing medications for opioid use disorders would ensure a smooth implementation of the program statewide.
The nonprofit health treatment provider has already started programming at MCI Framingham, South Middlesex Correctional Institution in Framingham, MCI Shirley and MCI Cedar Junction in Norfolk. Additional programs will be phased in statewide over the next year.
Spectrum has signed contracts to provide similar substance abuse services through the Essex County Sheriff’s Department and Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department. Spectrum provides medication-assisted treatment for the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Department.
