Worcester creates proposal for cannabis commission headquarters

Union Station could soon be the headquarters for the Cannabis Control Commission.
The Worcester Redevelopment Authority has authorized the submission of a lease proposal to a state department for the Cannabis Control Commission’s new headquarters.
The WRA voted unanimously Monday morning to work with Worcester-based Nault Architects to create a lease proposal with the state board tasked with regulating the state’s legal recreational marijuana industry.
No public discussion was held on the matter. Instead, the WRA took it up in executive session after the short public meeting.
City spokesman Mike Vigneux told WBJ the WRA authorized the submission of a lease proposal to the state Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance.
The city is not making the proposal public until a decision is reached.
City Chief Development Officer Michael Traynor in April told the WRA he is preparing a response to the CCC’s request for proposal for at least 13,000 square feet of office space in Worcester.
Traynor then said there is about 15,000 square feet of available space in the underutilized transportation hub at Union Station.
The CCC, the state agency set up to oversee the legal sale of recreational marijuana products, is seeking a 10-year lease for an office consisting of about 50 employees.
The RFP said it is looking for a location accessible via public transportation. The Union Station space appears to check off all of the CCC's requests, Traynor said in April.
