Worcester Academy has signed an agreement to become the first high school tenant at the new Worcester Sports Center, marking the first tenant for the sports complex that is currently under construction in the city’s Canal District.
“Worcester Academy is thrilled to expand its footprint in Worcester and to be involved in the continued growth of the Canal District right down the hill from campus,” Ronald Cino, head of school at Worcester Academy, said in a statement released Friday.
Under the agreement, the WA's boys and girls ice hockey teams will maintain team rooms at the center. The agreement also allows the teams to practice daily and use the space for home games.
Set to open in the summer of 2017, WSC is a two-rink facility that will house youth, high school and collegiate players, as well as tenants that will include a restaurant and services for players such as a physical therapy center. The cost of the project is estimated at $18 million.
