Worcester Academy has sold a building formerly used as the school’s alumni offices for $900,000 to a Boston-based corporation.
The academy sold the building, located at 51 Providence St., to 51 Providence Acquisition LLC, according to Worcester District Registry of Deeds records. 51 Providence Acquisition is managed by Joseph Gallagher of South Boston.
"The move from Alumni House is part of our ten-year campus master plan,” Kevin Breen, head of Worcester Academy, said in a Thursday email to WBJ. “When alumni come back to Worcester Academy, they want to see our main, historic campus, so moving the alumni and development office offers a better visit experience.”
An on-campus location would be a better location for its alumni office, Breen said.
“We tried the off-campus location for 20 years, but having the alumni team in historic Walker Hall and our archives in Rader Hall is a better fit for our community," he said.
The sold building is a three-story home first constructed in 1900. The property was given a tax assessment of $584,800 in 2023, according to City of Worcester property records.
Worcester Academy bought the property for $350,000 in 2002 as part of a larger deal also involving parcels on nearby Harrison Street, according to Worcester District Registry of Deeds records.
