Our story about the trouble Athol-based toolmaker L.S. Starrett is having installing a hydroelectric plant near its headquarters elicited this reader response:

"This is crazy. Starrett is the only major employer in Athol. Why is our government making it so hard for them to stay? If they leave town then Athol will be even more economically depressed. All business is not evil."

We started a discussion on our LinkedIn group on the proposed Theatre District in downtown Worcester, which aims to capitalize on the success of the Hanover Theatre. The majority of respondents were supportive of the idea, which is being spearheaded by the Worcester Development Corp.

"It's all going to be about attracting the right crowd from the surrounding towns to attend the events. I am sure there is a very strong market who would love to NOT drive the distance to Boston, etc, as well as avoiding the traffic and tolls!"

Christian Leatham

"I believe that, when live performing arts venues are thriving, the economy within the city also thrives. In addition to creating jobs and attracting artists and professionals to Worcester, many audience members will also spend money before and after performances."
