More than 11,300 Massachusetts employees will be eligible for Walmart's planned one-time bonus, the company announced Tuesday.
Those bonuses of up to $1,000 per employee are expected to total almost $3.8 million in Massachusetts the company said. Bonuses will be based on length of employment, maxing out at $1,000 for eligible employees who have least 20 years with the company.
After announcing plans to expand maternity leave, parental benefits and bonuses for eligible employees, Walmart said it is creating a new benefit to assist employees with adoption expenses.
The company, with 13 stores in Central Massachusetts, announced earlier this month the closure of 63 Sam’s Club stores, including one in Worcester.
The retail giant said it will provide financial assistance of $5,000 to employees adopting a child, which will be available to both full-time hourly and salaried associates. The money will be used for adoption agency fees, translation fees and legal costs.
Also planned is an expanded parental and maternity leave policy, which will provide full-time hourly associates in the country with 10 weeks of paid maternity leave, and six weeks of paid parental leave.
Salaried associates will receive six weeks of paid parental leave, the company said.
Correction: An earlier version of this story indicated only employees with 20 or more years of service with the company will receive bonuses. The story has since been updated.
