Venture Capital Fundraising Slows

Venture capital fundraising slowed in the third quarter compared to the first half of the year, but it's still expected to outpace last year's amount, according to Dow Jones LP Source.

In the third quarter, 110 private equity funds raised $24.8 billion. That brings the running total for the year up to $92.5 billion.

The third quarter amount only accounts for 27 percent of the total raised this year, meaning that the fundraising has leveled off in recent months.

The year-end totals are still expected to outpace last year, when $95.9 billion was raised.

"Private equity fund-raising appeared to be on a steady flight back to the land of recovery during the first half of 2011," said Laura Kreutzer, managing editor of Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst. "But recent public market volatility, concerns about Europe and a heightened sense of economic uncertainty created some turbulence in the third quarter."
