U.S. Unemployment Drops

After rising slightly over the previous few months, the U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 9.4 percent in December, down from 9.8 percent in November, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The new unemployment rate was the lowest in 19 months, although the drop was mostly due to people leaving the labor force.

The nation's employment level also rose by 103,000, with jobs gained in the health care and leisure and hospitality industries.
