Kopin Corp., a Westborough manufacturing firm making wearable technologies, has hired a defense industry veteran as its first vice president of operations.
Kopin announced Monday it has named Eric Whitman to the new post, choosing an executive with a long career in defense and technology. Whitman was most recently the COO of Web Industries, which has local offices in Marlborough, where he focused primarily on an operational strategy to scale the company’s business systems in anticipation of growth across eight manufacturing plants in the United States and Europe.
Whitman, a Navy veteran, has also worked as a shift manager at Intel’s Hudson facility, as a director of operations for integrated defense systems at Raytheon, as a division leader at Draper, and as vice president of operations at Bodycote. He has a master’s degree in engineering and management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
John Fan, Kopin’s CEO, said Whitman’s role will be critical to the company as it expects a number of products to go into production in the coming years. The firm’s devices include night-vision goggles and other vision aids for the military.
