U.S. Adds Jobs, Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged

National employment increased by 151,000 in October, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 9.6 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The number of unemployed people was 14.8 million, essentially flat with the previous month. The unemployment rate has been essentially unchanged since May.

The number of people considered "long-term unemployed" remained at about 6.2 million. About 41.8 percent of unemployed people had been jobless for 27 weeks or more.
